Winter weather hits Calgary and area

Calgarians are getting a quick reminder that winter is right around the corner with snow in the forecast in and around the city Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Our very own meteorologist David Spence says to expect about 1 or 2 cm’s of snow in Calgary which means possibly needing the snowbrush for the vehicle but not the shovels just yet and only really a small amount on grassy areas.
He says the Foothills will be hit the hardest with about 5-7 cm’s in the forecast.
He adds, people always tend to panic at the first sight of snow and start prepping for winter by getting snow tires put on and while it’s not really time to do that just yet, don’t wait too long because there’s no guarantees come the end of October.
Meanwhile, heavy wet snow has been reported in mainly parts of the Northwest including Hawkwood, Royal Oak and Springbank Airport along with north of the city near Airdrie.
Reports of snow were also called in from outside the city on Highway 22 around Longview, southwest of Calgary and Turner Valley.
The Roads Department isn’t expecting much if any accumulation, but sanders, loaded with road salt are ready to go just in case.
