The World Health Organization says depression will be the second leading cause of disability by 2020, it’s believed 1in 5 will suffer a mental illness in their life-time and everyone is affected by it.
But how do you know if you are suffering from depression?
The Calgary Counselling Centre is hosting its 7th annual National Depression Screening Day starting at midnight tonight(Thursday) online. It’s an event which has seen growing sucess.
The Canadian Mental Health Association says suicide is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women from adolescence to middle age.
Dr. Robbie Babins-Wagner is urging everyone to take a few minutes of their time to take the test.
“Depression is a serious problem, but it also is a problem that can be solved,” said Babins-Wagner.
She says the earlier you get help, the better.
“It can be easily solved if people seek treatment early. So, we want people to take the test if they screened in for a problem and seek the appropriate help that they need,” said Babins-Wagner.
She says they continue to hear feedback that the test continues to help people and in some cases has saved lives.
