Province announces plans for crackdown on grow-ops

The proliferation of marijuana grow-ops across the province has caught the attention of the Redford goverment.
While speaking at a community crime prevention conference in Calgary, Justice Minister Jonathan Denis announced the province will soon launch an exhaustive grow-op consultative process.
“We will speak with police agencies,” said Denis. “We will speak with home inspectors. We will speak with community groups. We will speak with people who have been unfortunate enough to live next door to one of these groups. It has been largely an urban issue, but we want to make sure it doesn’t spread to the rural areas as well. The map of both Calgary and Edmonton where there have been … grow-ops taken down is becoming a significant issue, and we have to … address this before it gets any worse.”
Denis says the Redford government wants to figure out the best way to pull the plug on such operations.
“How can we prevent them?,” he muses. “How can we detect them earlier? How can we remediate the houses? How can we notify purchasers of these properties that there has been a grow-op there because there are some significant health issues involved in these properties.”
