Charges laid in Shamrock Hotel fire

The owner of the Shamrock Hotel is facing several charges in connection with a fire this past summer.
A number of hotel guests had to be rescued from the blaze.
An investigation into the three-alarm fire identified a number of violations of the Alberta fire code.
Investigators determined there were a number of reason’s why people were trapped in their rooms or on the rooftop back on August 28th, 2012.
“There was some fire code violations within the hotel that lead to the events that trapped the people within the building and with that being said, we’ve charged the owner,” says Deputy fire chief Brad Lorne.
The owner of the Shamrock, Louisa K. Ho has a November 21st court date.
A total of six charges have been filed, each carry a maximum penalty of a $15,000 fine or six months in jail.
Lorne hopes the laying of charges will be a wake-up call to all about the importance of fire safety.
