Cycling tracks in downtown causing stir

An approved proposal for cycling tracks along some downtown streets have some Calgarians upset.

They’re concerned about losing parking spots along 6th St. and 7th St. between 1st Ave. and 8th Ave. S.W.

Council argues transportation engineers will try to minimize the impact on already scarce downtown parking.

The tracks will be two metres wide and separated from traffic by a median, which cyclists say is a safer solution than painted lines.

The Calgary Herald reports construction on the routes should be completed in 2014.
