Bowden Institution under lockdown

Bowden Institution is under lockdown as officials search the prison for possible drugs.

Assistant Warden Rita Wehrle tells 660News officers received a tip from their intelligence department that led them to believe there was contraband in the facility.

“The search is being conducted to ensure the ongoing safety and security of the institution, its staff and the inmates,” says Wehrle.

Visits have been suspended until the search has been completed, which Wehrle says could take a few days.

The prison was placed on lockdown at noon on Monday.
