Bow Valley College says the private records of 200,000 students are safe after they ended up in the hands of a regular citizen.
The college sent 21 computer servers to be wiped clean earlier this year and one was sold to a member of the public.
When that man found the private information still on the server, he contacted the privacy commissioner.
The records include student information from 1991 to early 2010 and the information of employees, suppliers, and contractors from 1998 to 2010.
Despite the leak, officials tell The Calgary Herald they’re confident the information only came in contact with one person and they continue to investigate what went wrong.
