TransCanada: U.S. power assets made it through Sandy in good shape

CALGARY – TransCanada (TSX:TRP) says its power generating operations in the northeastern United States made it through Superstorm Sandy in good shape.
The company’s president of energy and oil pipelines says the Ravenswood Power Plant in New York City churned out electricity throughout the massive storm last night and continues to operate at full capacity today.
Alex Pourbaix says during the past 24 hours, Ravenswood was at times able to supply more than half of the electricity going into New York City — one of the hardest-hit areas.
Pourbaix says the storm surge peaked below Ravenswood’s protective barrier and doesn’t appear to have sustained any damage.
Its Ocean State Power facility in Rhode Island is operating normally, too.
Meanwhile, the storm helped TransCanada’s Kibby Wind project in Maine produce more power than it normally does and operations at its U.S. hydroelectric projects haven’t been disrupted.
The post-tropical storm left at least 33 people dead and millions without power and transit.
