Freezing rain is wreaking havoc on power lines in central and southern Alberta.
About 1,700 people are without electricity in Olds, Pincher Creek, Red Deer, Vulcan, Lacombe, and surrounding areas.
A Fortis spokeswoman says there are a couple of downed power lines.
“That’s due to trees and branches falling on them. Apparently there’s a significant ice build-up, not only on our lines, but some trees that have caused our power lines to come down,” she says.
Crews are working to restore power but there’s no word on how long that will take.
