You may be surprised to find out where the money you donate to charity goes.
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation spends only half of money raised on education and research; the rest goes toward operations.
And nearly half the money raised at an event like run for the cure, $18-million, goes to employee paycheques.
Director of Charity Intelligence Canada, Karen Bahen, tells The Calgary Sun it’s great to see the success of the charity, but she wonders if they need to spend as lavishly as they do.
She points to the Terry Fox Foundation, which contributes 84 per cent of money raised to research, spending only $2-million on staff salaries.
