Police looking for two men after dramatic jewellery heist

Police say they are looking for two men in Monday mornings drive thru, crash and grab at Market Mall.

The culprits, drove their stolen SUV through the north mall entrance, then into the doors of a jewelry store and made off with lots of valuables. They dumped the SUV nearby which; is now being looked over by officers.

Investigators believe this was a planned robbery and the suspects likely scoped out the store and mall before hand. Police say they hope to catch the thieves on video surveillance.

Staff Sergeant Dave Louie says the jewelry could be popping up online or at pawn shops for sale. “If someone approaches you with jewelry and they attempt to sell the jewelry to you, please call CPS because we would be more interested to talking to [you],” says Louie.

He says the surveillance photos of the culprits will be made available soon.

Two sets of doors were taken out as they drove 30 metres into the mall, damaging a security fence, and taking off with an unknown amount of merchandise. Broken glass litters the mall’s north entrance, with lighting hanging from the ceiling, and what may be pieces of the suspect vehicle.

Duty Inspector Paul Stacey says the crash will impact shopping in the mall. “They’ll have to check to make sure everything is structurally sound and everything else, because it ripped out a lot of infrastructure there.”
