Military veterans get break on parking

Just in time for Remembrance Day, City Council has approved a move to give veterans a break on monthly parking in the city.

The plan is set to roll out starting December 1st, and allows Calgarians with a valid Alberta veterans’ license plate and a ParkPlus account to get $10 worth of free on-street parking a month.

Alderman Shane Keating tells The Calgary Sun it’s a simple gesture of thanks.

It’s estimated almost 6,000 veterans’ plates are registered in Calgary.

Lethbridge, Red Deer, and Toronto already have parking programs for veterans.
