Backup for aldermen in budget

The new city budget aims to spend around $300-thousand a year to give aldermen some backup.
$213-thousand would go to hiring a ‘crisis communicator’ to help aldermen get the word out to residents about serious issues and events.
The city enacted its Municipal Emergency Plan seven times in the past year for everything from wind storms to the toxic fire at an Ogden scrap yard.
Another proposed adjustment in the budget calls for better training for rookie members of Council.
Alderman Jim Stephenson tells the Calgary Herald, he wishes he’d had more training when he first began because “starting can be like drinking from a fire hose.”
