City street lights may go LED

The city might be ready to change its light bulbs.
A report going in front of a city committee this week suggests converting Calgary’s streetlights to LED technology will save $1.3-million annually.
But replacing the lights comes at a capital cost of $23.7-million over three years.
The report calls for the work to begin in 2015 and wrap up in 2017.
Alderman Gord Lowe tells The Calgary Sun it’s probably the right way to go, but with ever-changing technology the upgrades need to leave room to adapt to the next advance in street lights.
