Alberta is looking to target U.S veterans to help combat the worker shortage in the oilsands.
The province is hoping to attract thousands of demobilized military personnel and Energy Minister Ken Hughes says he will start scouting the U.S. next year.
He says success would also act as a goodwill gesture and would help sell the oilsands to an America that’s shown a reluctance toward them.
Hughes tells the Calgary Sun there are a half-million unemployed or under-employed younger military veterans stateside.
One study suggests Alberta could be short 130-thousand workers within seven years.
