India suspended from participating in Olympics by IOC: reports

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended India from participating in Olympic competition, according to several reports.

The IOC claims the Indian Olympic Association conducted elections of officials in a manner that failed to comply with rules established by the IOC.

Reports indicate the IOC believes the Indian government has improperly interfered with the election that is set to take place Wednesday.

The Indian Olympic Committee responded by claiming it has not violated any IOC rule, saying the action taken against it is unjustified.

Until there is some resolution India will not receive IOC funding and Indian officials will be banned from Olympic meetings, while Indian athletes will not be allowed to compete under their national flag.

India did not win any gold medals and finished 55th in the standings at the last Summer Games in London, England.
