Alberta wildlife officials are targeting poachers after dozens of animals including a female cougar, elk, deer and moose were killed in the Water Valley, Sundre, and Olds areas in the past two months.
Hunters came across the carcass of a female cougar, days before the December 1st season opening and this week, a mule deer buck was shot and beheaded, weeks after the mule deer season ended November 30th.
Nathan Webb, from Alberta Environment tells The Calgary Herald, anyone witnessing suspicious activity such as seeing a rifle sticking out the window of a vehicle should report it.
He adds, it’s important not to approach suspected poachers, but snapping a photo of the person, vehicle or a license plate can help identify the poacher.
