Idle No More protest outside Stephen Harper’s Calgary office

While Chief Theresa Spence appeared in Victoria Island, there was another Idle No More protest Sunday outside Stephen Harper’s Calgary office.
About 400 people marched and drummed in front of his Glenmore Landing headquarters in support of Spence.
Sandra Somerville of Winnipeg told 660News why she joined the crowd in front of Harper’s office.
“If he’s capable of sitting down with the leaders of China, if he’s capable of sitting down with people who are part of the Chamber of Commerce, if he’s capable of sitting down with mayors, leaders from other countries, then he’s capable of sitting down with a leader of a small community called Attawapiskat,” she said.
Somerville added Harper has to prioritize when it comes to negotiations with First Nations.
“Equity, environmental concerns, running water in people’s homes to have electricity, to have a home, not just a tent in the middle of winter where it’s 30 or 40 or even colder,” she said. “What we need in this country is a rejigging of what’s fair.”
On Sunday, there was also a protest in front of the Alberta legislature in Edmonton.
