Rat found in city’s southeast

A southeast Calgary man says he caught a rat in his garage in New Brighton this week.

After seeing pictures of the dead rodent, the province’s top rat catcher tells the Calgary Sun, it appears to be a roof rat.

Phil Merrill says that type is the underdog to the more popular Norway rat but, like any of them, it’s still a potential threat to humans.

Though the rodent may have come in on a transport truck officials will be investigating whether there are any more nearby.

The home where the rat was found is just blocks away from a city landfill.
