KELOWNA (NEWS1130) – People on a flight from Kelowna to Edmonton got a scare this morning.
The WestJet plane they were on slid off the tarmac at Kelowna International Airport.
“The nose wheel and two main gear wheels on the right side of the aircraft slid off the apron due to a snow storm,” describes Robert Palmer with WestJet.
“There were no injuries; guests were offloaded and taken back to the terminal to be re-accommodated… There were 134 guests, plus six crew members on-board,” he adds. “The aircraft itself will undergo a maintenance check to see if any damage occurred.”
Airport Director Sam Samaddar says heavy snow and fog have been hampering operations, but runways and taxiways are being cleared. “We’ve had crews out there; the surface conditions had been reported as being snow-covered.”
“There’ll be investigations done later to determine exactly what occurred,” notes Samaddar.
The aircraft was a 737; it was flight number 150.
