Redesign plans to clean up S.W. underpass

The city hopes a planned makeover will brighten up a gloomy downtown underpass.

Marc Boutin, the architect behind a redesign of the 1st Street S.W. underpass, says he knows a lot of people who currently avoid it.

The tunnel’s new look will include side walls with shifting images and large signs that convey what it connects to.

The $1.3-million project is expected to be completed this autumn.

According to The Calgary Herald, city officials will be working on revamping the pedestrian crossing on 8th Street S.W. next.
