City considers rumble strips in school zones

Drivers will soon find rumble strips in front of busy schools if council plans go through.

City politicians agreed Tuesday to look into adding the strips which alert motorists with vibrations to slow down.

Alderman Jim Stevenson made the suggestion, saying too many drivers are missing school zone signs and speeding through the areas.

The city’s transportation and transit committee will be reporting back in May with recommendations for a pilot project.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he also wants to look into extra safety precautions around Calgary’s many playgrounds.
