A seven-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being viciously attacked Saturday by a pitbull-type dog inside his family home in Cochrane.
Tyler LeClaire’s aunt, Tanya Batycki, tells The Calgary Sun her nephew was sitting on the floor when the dog lunged for no reason and ripped off part of his face.
It took four hours of surgery and two blood transfusions to re-attach the piece of skin; his parents are now waiting to see if the operation was a success.
His family wants the animal destroyed because it has a history of violence.
Batycki says its owner needed stitches after being bit by the dog during a previous incident.
The animal is now in custody in Calgary until officials decide on the next course of action.
Tyler is said to be in good spirits, but is worried other children might make fun of him.
His aunt calls Tyler a “brave inspiration” and is calling for responsible pet ownership and people to socialize their dogs so they’re not a danger to others.
A huge fan of the Calgary Flames, the seven-year-old is excited that his team and Mikka Kiprusoff are back in action.
He’s hoping the squad will send someone over to Alberta Children’s Hospital for a visit.
