Safety in school zones is becoming an increasing concern for Calgary parents and officials.
The priorities and finance committee has approved a $150,000 study that will look into traffic safety in congested school areas, but council still has to give the okay.
Alderman Gord Lowe tells The Calgary Sun an increasing number of parents dropping off or picking up kids instead of letting them walk or take the bus to school is contributing to the problem.
Meanwhile, the traffic safety committee has launched a petition with the province to make playground zone hours start at an earlier time.
The Calgary Herald reports, the province has changed school zone start times to coincide with class start times, but parents are concerned motorists can still speed through playground zones until 8:30 a.m.
