AUPE backs fired prison guards

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees says several corrections guards have been unjustly fired at the province’s jails due to problems like overcrowding.
Chairman Clark McChesney says several guards have been reprimanded following incidents that have more to do with dismal conditions at the remand centres.
McChesney says any time you have a more crowded situation; you have a more volatile situation.
He says the management of these correctional facilities has put guards in a more dangerous climate.
The Calgary Sun reports AUPE members plan on picketing Justice Minister Jonathan Denis’ Calgary office on Friday.
