Winter Carnival in Canmore

Winter Carnival got underway Friday night in Canmore, but the two and a half week event takes full flight, Saturday.
“Lots of focus on the kids and kids’ artwork and afternoon workshops,” Tulene Steiestol of Tourism Canmore tells 660News, referring to the schedule of events on the first day of the weekend. “So downtown at the Canmore Civic Centre, there’s art workshops, crafts, puppet-making, theatre sports, dancing, all kinds of things. There’s no registration required. It’s free, you just show up.”
The children’s programs at the Civic Centre run from noon until 4 p.m.
Steistol notes while Saturdays’s schedule is children oriented, there’s no lack of activities for adults making the trek to Canmore from Calgary.
“Definitely, Calgary seems to come out for the day and enjoy themselves,” she adds. “Or spend a couple of nights and have some great dinners and great lunches. There’s always other things in town that they can do. They could go to the Nordic Centre and go cross country skiing, or bring their snow shoes and go into Spray Lakes and tour around or go dog-sledding out in Spray Lakes.”
The Winter Carnival in Canmore runs through the Family Day Weekend until February 18th, and includes the Kid ‘n Mutt dog sled races in downtown Canmore, next Saturday.
