The Keystone XL and Northern Gateway pipelines have been getting a lot of play in the media, but lost in the coverage of the controversial projects are some ambitious plans by Enbridge.
According to the Calgary Herald, the company is working on a number of new projects and line expansions that will eventually provide more shipping capacity than TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline project.
Over a three year period, Enbridge plans to spend $15 billion on three initiatives, providing additional markets for about one million barrels a day of Alberta product.
The biggest project is already in partial production. The Gulf Coast Access is a $6.4 billion plan that will expand the Enbridge Mainline System to the Chicago area. From there, the oil products would go south to Cushing, Oklahoma, via the new Flanagan South line.
