Husky Energy pledges funding to crime prevention program

A prominent energy company is hoping to stop crime before it starts.

Husky Energy has pledged $500,000 to the Calgary Police’s multi-agency school support team.

Chief Rick Hanson says the money is helping them expand the program and reach more troubled youth.

He says, “This money will be used to fund the social workers that are paired up with the police officers, so now we have gone from a pilot of four teams of two to 12 teams of two that blanket the whole city.”

Hanson adds with other funding disappearing from initiatives targeting gang and organized crime, it’s nice to be helping kids before they get involved in violence.
