One dead after house fire in Lethbridge

An evening fire in Lethbridge has claimed the life of a 58-year-old man.
Emergency crews responded to the home around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday night.
Platoon Chief Barry Sorensen said the blaze caused extensive damage.
“We had a fully involved house fire, $200,000 damage, pretty well a write off,” he said.
Sorenson added while crews searched the home, a body was found under debris.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time, but neighbours have identified him as Alexander McKenzie.
One of those neighbours, Nicholas Wyslouzil described him as a gentle person.
“He was a heck of a gardener, he took care of his mother, had done that most of his life, he took care of his seniors’ friends, cut lawns, those kinds of things, he was always out,” he said.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the home to go up in flames.
