Irish job seekers headed to Canada

Irish job seekers are increasingly flocking to Canada.

The Canadian embassy in Dublin says last week, they saw a yearly quota of more than 6,000 working holiday visas snapped up in only two and a half days.

Executive director Cathy Murphy says it’s a sign of “the desperation of young people to get out”.

She says while the visas were originally designed for backpackers looking to get in some work on their holiday, they’re increasingly appealing to people looking for permanent work.

She tells The National Post, many are hoping to build their skills, and get the necessary experience to apply for residency.
