Wintery weather forces highway closures

Highways in and around our city on Wednesday were good but road conditions in many other parts of the province are being described as treacherous.

Alberta Transportation is out with an advisory of highway closures for Highways 41,12, 13 and 9 in the Czar, Oyen and Consort area.

The highways have been closed due to zero visibility and extremely high gusting winds which have caused dangerous travel conditions.

Meanwhile, RCMP in Ponoka have reported strong winds and blowing snow as well, forcing vehicles off the road on the QE II and things only deteroriate the further north you travel.

About a half dozen RCMP detachments around Edmonton and east of the capital have also reported whiteout conditions on area highways.
