The Canadian Federation of Independent Business is a big believer in the old adage: ‘if first you don’t succeed, try again.’
Spokesman Richard Truscott says they are again calling on the Redford Government to create a new position: an auditor general for municipalities.
“In fact, there was a private members bill that unfortunately did die on the order paper a couple of years back. I must note, B.C. has moved forward and the Alberta government has been left behind on the policy front,” he says.
Truscott adds, having a Municipal Auditor General would ensure taxpayers are getting the best bang for their buck.
The CFIB says over 70 per cent of it’s members back the call, adding if the province doesn’t act, it could be a big issue this fall during municipal elections.
