Farmers concerned about possible fuel allowance cuts

Alberta farmers are worried they’re going to take a hit in the next provincial budget.

The government’s budget planning website says the province could save more than $28-million by cutting the farm fuel distribution allowance.

President of the Wild Rose Agriculture Producers, Lynn Jacobson, says they rely on the six cents per litre reduction in the price of diesel.

“On 500 litres maybe it’s not much. But when you add up your totals at the end of year it starts to add up to a significant amount of money for agriculture,” explains Jacobson.

Jacobson says farmers use diesel for pretty much everything that runs in their fields.

He says they’ll be raising their concerns about the idea with the agriculture minister and opposition politicians.
