A Seattle philanthropist is touring North America seeking out “human angels.”

John Shimer, the founder of the Angels Among Us Project, was in Calgary and Edmonton recently to honour those who work on their own time to help others.

“This project implores communities to say ‘hey, let’s make this a local campaign to seek out the good that’s going on in our community and tell those stories,'” says Shimer.

The director of the Fortune Family Foundation was in town to present Heather Topolnitsky an Angel on Earth Award for her work as a volunteer with the Calgary Humane Society.

The project invites people to tell stories of those who’ve gone above and beyond, on the website www.angelsamongus.org.
