More crown corporations than thought: study

A new study at the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy has found there are hundreds of Crown corporations.
“The provincial Crown sector alone is significantly larger than the entire federal sector, whether we measure by assets, employees or contribution to national GDP,” the authors write.
Study co-author Ken McKenzie says many of these state-owned corporations are in Alberta.
In Calgary there’s ENMAX and EPCOR and on the provincial level there is Alberta Investment Management and ATB Financial.
McKenzie says it’s important Canadians realize how big the crown sector is so they can better scrutinize the businesses they own.
