Gaming to be an engineer

Engineers and those who employ them are turning to the gaming craze to encourage young people to consider a career in the field.
A new on-line challenge has been launched at St. Martha’s school in northeast Calgary.
It’s called Engenious.
The kids at the school appear to enjoy clicking through a series of ten virtual tasks aimed at showing them how engineering can improve their lives and build a better world.
The people behind the website see engaging the kids in junior high as important because, by the time they graduate, it’s expected Alberta will be short by about two thousand engineers.
One student says she likes the idea because it could help her plan what courses to take for high school and university.
Engenious was developed by the Alberta Association of Engineers with funding from the provincial government and energy companies, including Cenovus, Pembina and CNRL.
