Fraud Prevention Month

Don’t become a victim of fraud, educate yourself.

That message from Calgary police and a number of other agencies teaming up to kick off fraud prevention month.

Last year over 3,000 cases of fraud were reported to officers in Calgary.

S/Sgt Dan Hoshwa says criminals are very imaginative when it comes to thinking up scams.

“It’s not that the public is not paying attention, it’s more of a scenario where the offenders, when we plug one hole they create another hole. And so the purpose of Fraud Prevention Month is for us to come together and to provide new messaging on topic’s that we’ve discovered over the past year,” said S/Sgt Hoshwa.
