Study supports bike lanes

A new study is supporting a call for more separated bike lanes in Calgary.

The University of Calgary study looked at data from emergency rooms in Calgary and Edmonton from 2008 to 2010.

It found cyclists involved in collisions with moving vehicles were four times as likely to suffer severe injuries as those involved in other types of accidents.

The city’s first set of barrier separated bike lanes on 7th St. S.W. are set to be ready by July.

President of Bike Calgary Brent Clark tells The Calgary Herald, the lanes provide a more comfortable and safe environment for cyclists.
