Joey Mac saved by NHL dream

Flames goalie Joey MacDonald is thanking a higher power for looking out for him, and leading him to play for Calgary.

MacDonald says the decision to keep pursuing his NHL dreams in 2011 kept him from being the victim of a terrible plane crash that killed many of his friends.

The Calgary Sun reports MacDonald was seriously considering joining Russian team Lokomotiv, months before all but one of the squad died in a plane crash.

Instead, he’s found himself stepping up the last couple of weeks to fill in for injured Miikka Kiprusoff.
