It’s not often kidnapping is worth a 14 year jail sentence, but a Calgary man is now facing that penalty.
Nicholas Hovanesian abducted one of the victims in a gang-related shooting in January 2009.
Three men were killed at the the Bolsa restaurant off Macleod Trail South, one of those was Aaron Bendle.
Hovanesian abducted Bendle to lure a known gangster to the shooting.
Crown prosecutor Shane Parker says 14 years behind bars for Nicholas Hovanesian is appropriate, considering he abducted a man as part of a deadly plot.
According to The Calgary Sun, the lengthy sentence could result in Hovanesian being deported to his native Uruguay.
It’s believed this is one of the longest sentences for kidnapping in Alberta’s history.
