The pristine wilderness and wildlife that draws people to the mountain resort town of Canmore got a little too close for comfort recently.
The Calgary Herald reports a cougar attacked and killed a deer behind a Canmore apartment building last week.
Canmore resident Steve Andreucci says he and his roommate woke up one morning to find the cougar sinking its teeth into the small mule deer and while he only watched from his balcony it sure got his heart rate up.
The cougar actually buried the deer carcass; fish and wildlife officers removed it once the cat left the area.
Officials think a recent heavy snowfall forced the animal down into the town site to look for a meal.
