Alberta’s fiscal watchdog is investigating the province’s new way of bookkeeping.
Finance Minister Doug Horner’s budget released last Thursday is broken into three different parts: an operating plan, a capital plan, and a savings plan.
Liberal MLA Kent Hehr says the budget is difficult to understand and tough to read, which gives the impression the Tory government doesn’t necessarily know what will happen.
Hehr is questioning whether the budget is legal under current legislation and if the government is following through with proper accountability and transparency.
The MLA suspects the budget could be a violation of the Financial Administration Act brought in by Ralph Klein.
