Contractor wants more money for Peace Bridge

The city could be footing a bigger bill for finishing downtown’s $24.5-million Peace Bridge.

Contractor Graham Infrastructure is seeking funds above and beyond its nearly $18-million “fixed price” contract.

City Transportation General Manager Mac Logan isn’t revealing how much more the company wants, just saying that “it’s a lot of money.”

The city suspects various extra work the contractor had to do refinishing steel and making adjustments on the bridge, as well as months of delays, is the rationale for asking for more cash.

The Calgary Herald reports the city has little appetite to pay more and is fighting off the demand.
