Dodgy Beltline underpass getting an update

Growing safety concerns from pedestrians are spurring a makeover of the 1st Street S.W. underpass.
The planning and urban development committee has endorsed a recommendation to take $300,000 out of the Beltline Community Investment Fund to pay for the project.
Alderman John Mar says many complain the area is too dark, dingy and unsafe it needs to be updated.
He says Canadian Pacific and the Palliser Hotel are enthusiastic about the proposed facelift, and are also offering up funds.
The Calgary Sun reports city officials are also looking at other underpasses in the city that may need improvement.
