Avalanche risk still considerable into weekend

Officials are warning people to keep away from avalanche terrain this weekend.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre says while the risk will be slightly lowered than it has been over the last couple of days, people planning to get in some outdoor time will have to be conservative.

Spokesperson Stephanie Lemieux says avalanche risk is still considerable in many parts of Banff, Yoho and Kootenay parks.

“If people trigger something, it’s going to be pretty big … the likelihood might be a little bit less but the size is still pretty big. So, if something happens it’s going to be serious,” she says.

Lemieux tells 660News if you are planning a trip keep in simple terrain and be aware of conditions changing as you change elevation.
