CBE bosses getting raises

The Calgary Board of Education has approved raises for its top bureaucrats, at the same time the board is rejecting a teacher labour deal over hidden costs.

The Calgary Herald reports the maximum amount allocated for pay raises for directors, managers and supervisors is more than $1-million.

The school board says the salary increases are based on employee performance, but the increases come as many other public sector organizations are instituting wage freezes.

A spokesperson adds it is likely a quarter of the $1-milliom set aside for increases will not be used.
