Two people waiting for a bus in Calgary’s northwest are now in hospital after a car barreled into the bus stop where they were waiting.
The incident happened just before 12:30 Saturday afternoon on Centre St. at 68th Ave. in the community of Huntington Hills in front of the Thornhill Recreation Centre.
Police say a Honda car was traveling south on Centre St. when it was cut-off by Ford van. The driver of the Honda swerved to avoid the van, hopped the curb and struck a bench where a 20-year old woman, and 21-year old man were sitting.
“Both were transported in serious, but non life-threatening condition with various injuries,” says Adam Loria with EMS.
The couple suffered serious injuries to their legs, and some other injuries as well.
660’s Glory Przekop drove past the scene just after the crash happened and says the car did some significant damage to the bench at the stop.
“It was crumpled, it was broken, so it was really slanted. So, it was it in pieces,” says Przekop.
She also saw man bleeding from his head and laying on the ground, while a woman sat on the bench looking dazed.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
