Tannas looking forward to senate reform

The newest member of the Senate says he wants to work to achieve a vision of senate reform.

Scott Tannas, the CEO and founder of Western Financial Group, was appointed Monday by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The Albertan businessman says he’s trying to go into his new job with as few preconceived notions as possible.

He tells 660News he wants the Senate to start tackling the problems that will take longer than four years to fix.

“That’s where the Senate can come in. The Senate can actually focus on those issues, in a thoughtful, perhaps more non-partisan way, and come up with solutions, draw consensus around those solutions, and ultimately pass legislation.” He says.

Tannas will remain in role until December 31st, after which he will assume a new role with the company as Vice-Chairman and Founder.

Tannas is confident he can balance his new role with his interests in Western Financial Group.

His first day in the Senate will be April 16th.
