A reason for celebration at the Calgary Zoo as three tiger cubs turn one-year-old.
Many families enjoying the Easter activities had a chance to celebrate the birthday and 11-year-old Megan said she was surprised with the size of the cubs.
“They were definitely bigger now than they were before. I came here in June last year and they were like the size of their heads, it was adorable,” she said.
Zookeeper one, Jax Hoogard, said with this milestone passed, they’re looking forward to the cubs’ futures.
“Six full grown tigers is quite a lot, they will have to go to other facilities, other accredited zoos, so those are kind of in-the-workings now,” she said. “We are obligated to keep them for at least two years, because that’s how long they would be with their mom for in the wild and we try to mimic that as best as possible here.”
The cubs are the first successful litter for mom Katja and zookeepers say they are healthy and active for their age.
