Bridge lions could decorate LRT

Two pieces of Calgary’s history could soon become part of the city’s future.

The Community and Protective Services Committee is considering whether two of the original Centre St. Bridge lions should help decorate the West LRT line.

The Calgary Sun reports Alderman John Mar backs the idea because it both preserves Calgary’s history, and helps council save some cash.

Four lions were created for the bridge in 1917 and later replaced by replicas in 1999.

One of the lions has already been restored and put outside the city’s municipal building.
